The Local Dispensary was established in 2019 and remains the only locally owned & operated cannabis dispensary on San Juan Island.
Our team takes pride in providing top-tier cannabis products with that small-town island hospitality which draws us all to SJI. Designed specifically to cater to the lovely locals of the San Juan County, The Local Dispensary is a charming & eclectic gem featuring locally grown cannabis & pesticide-free products. We strive to create a relaxed and inviting environment, where our patrons feel comfortable asking questions & for recommendations. Our experienced budtenders are trained to educate and inform, to ensure you find the right cannabis product for you.
Sally is the star of the show. She/He/They is a 45-year-old Double Yellow Headed Amazon Parrot, which is only half of her lifespan. She is a rescue who landed in our loving arms about a year after The Local Dispensary opened. Although she does not like to be held or touched by our customers, Sally has grown so much socially during our time together. When she is in the mood, she loves requesting “Polly-Polly-Polly wants a cracker” & seems to enjoy bantering around with our customers. She often says things like “good morning”, “hello”, “bye” & when we are lucky… “tickle-tickle-tickle”. For the health & safety of you & Sally, please avoid putting your fingers in her cage, trying to touch her and/or attempting to feed her. She will bite when someone enters her territory, as that is the parrot way. Thank you for understanding.
Meet Our Team
While you have already met Sally, here is the rest of our loving and knowledgeable staff. From left to right, we have: Sarah, Justin, Jared, and Tanner.
Justin has been with the store since August 2023 as a bookkeeper and moved to the sales floor in June 2024. He now manages the store. While he is still new to the world of cannabis, he holds a BS in Accounting and has over 12 years of leadership experience. He served 10 years in the Army and has done variety of construction and sales jobs since. He is a husband and father of three.
Jared has the longest tenor at the store, as he has been here since the inception of the store in 2019. Jared is one of our most knowledgeable bud tenders and is always ready to help provide guidance on product selection. He truly has next level knowledge of all products and can ensure customer satisfaction via his customer service abilities.
Tanner has been with the store since January 2021, just a few months after his 21st birthday. He is also very adept and diverse in his knowledge of the store’s products, but “specializes” in concentrate products. He provides a high-quality customer service experience and always provides the shop with positive and energizing energy.
Sarah comes from a diverse retail and sales background. We were fortunate to add her to the team at the end of July 2022. She hails from the Port Angeles and has had a managerial background herself. While she is still learning the cannabis industry as well, she has made herself invaluable to the team via her skill with shop by providing insight through her previous years of work in retail.
